Today was a half work day… did not start till almost noon…
The door to the wood shed was installed a week or two ago…
Last week built the bedroom door and installed it… We also installed most of the cabinets and laid the kitchen floor…
Today the first coat of poly was applied to the kitchen floor… We are trying a plywood floor there… the local Amish do it… we will see how it works…
We also cleaned out the construction debris from under most of the cabin… kicked up another little ring neck snake… kids like em… small and easy to handle… put him in the wood pile…
Then after organizing the lumber under the cabin we started on a project we noticed after our vacation. The front bedroom that is over the porch has a small amount of shimmy in it. It is very small… but I want to try and deal with it… For starters we added some x-bracing to the 6×6 main supports under the cabin… I do not think this is really needed as if I put my hand on the 6×6’s I can not feel any motion… but figure it won’t hurt.
Where I feel the shimmy is on the 4×4’s that hold up the second floor… if they shimmy an eighth of an inch that would be alot… I added some X bracing to the top of the 4×4’s that I am going to box in so it looks like a beam… that did not seem to help… We are going to add some railing and X brace it in and see if the helps… if not we may add some extra 4×4’s to support the second floor and add X brace railing to keep it all from moving…
