So this week we have really got moving :

• painted some of the first floor
• installed rear storm door
• put first coat of mud on kitchen & dinning area ceiling
• started the second floor half walls
• cleaned up more storm damaged trees from when Ike came through and knocked a couple of poplar’s east of the cabin down we have been looking to get rid of.
• installed heat shield behind stove

I also put a video up on youtube… I’ll do another one next week

We have fire!!! We got the fireplace installed and running this week… getting the stove pipe installed was a PITA… the output pipe on the stove was exactly 6 inches… Getting the 6” stove pipe in required a bit of persuasion. Some other things we did :

• built the platform for the stove
• received more lumber for the upstairs half wall and wood for the upstairs loft area walls
• routed some of the lap joints from the above lumber
• insulated the electrical room with 2” celotex – I using the extra to make a insulated battery box for next week
• split the maple we cut up last week

I also have some pictures of two of my birthday gifts. The first one is a stove top oven. And the second one is a triple kerosene light. Both were hand made by the Amish man who built our stainless steel wood stove chimney. Right now we have him making a stainless wall protector (should have photos next week).

The pictures of the buildings on stilts are from the valley near our place. We were in the area and I had always want to take a picture of them. The area floods regularly (notice the walk up outhouse :). At one place near here I have seen people park their cars at the road and canoe back to their house… glade I do not have those issues.

I am curious to how old that trailer is… looks to be very “vintage”

So this week I got to spend a bit more time working on the cabin… about a day and a half down there… Here is the list of things taken care of this week :

1) More finishing of the second floor drywall
2) shelves added to the second floor closets
3) Stainless steel chimney installed… boy was this fun…
4) Installed part of first floor ceiling drywall
5) put a cabinet on the kitchen wall that we got from my mother-in-law’s pantry
6) stopped out to the Amish tin smith who made the chimney… ordered the rest of the parts to finish the job…
7) cleaned up some wind damage from IKE to one of the mapples… next years firewood… we have several more to cleanup around the property.

another busy week… It seems like we are finally getting things done

1) the 4 x 4 post have been moved into place (first two photos) and I did a little sanding on them as the are going to be left exposed with a island in between them
2) second floor ceiling has been primed showing many areas that need more attention to the drywall… this will be looked at soon
3) dry-walled the bedroom wall and installed electric in it. this was enough to get the second floor electrical hooked up to the main panel. so now the whole cabin’s electrical is setup
4) screwed down a couple of squeaks in the floor along with adding a couple of of scabs in between flooring joists on the second floor in between sub flooring sheets.
5) sanded down some 1 x 6 hemlock (just a little… I wanted to leave the saw marks while removing the ruff sections) and installed them as trim for the closet areas.
6) we put in a order for some larch 4×6’s and some 1 by’s to finish off the second floor

again… busy busy busy…

we still need to get the chimney installed… to much rain… then do the first floor drywall… hopefully soon…

1) The first coat of mud is on the ceiling and we put primer on about a quarter of the ceiling so we can see where we need to spend extra time on the mudding.
2) We sprayed on a coat of sealer on the siding.
3) Installed the replacement 4×4 post to support the second floor (third photo – the post to the left will be removed and another one will be placed about 4 feet to the right).
4) Installed the rest of the second floor sub-flooring and studwall for bedroom
5) split the wood we got last week and picked up some pallets to put the wood on.

like I said… busy busy busy…
