Pole Barn 11-5

Wow could the weather be any more helpful… mid 30’s today and rain to start the day mixed with some wet snow as the day went by… Our ladders are covered in mud… and so were we by the end of the day…

Despite the weather we managed to complete the siding and get most of the batons up…. doing the bottom ones is pretty easy and fast… the upper ones and front ones required a bit more time… angles are PITA… Boxing in the roof beams also probably took 20 minutes each… lots of little peaces and cuts… not fun but I like the look.

Stihl 034 AV

Stihl 034AV in front of some of the trees we cut down today

We picked up this saw over the summer… it was in real nice shape considering it’s age… It needs a little carb tuning…

Pole Barn

This morning I got to the cabin around 8 to 38 degrees and rain… not what I was looking forward to… only had time for 15 minutes of turkey hunting… saw 4 and tried to get in front of them… never works that way… so back to work

Today we got the front sided and most of the north side… but we are having a problem getting 1×10’s… all we have left is the upper south side and the soffits…

Along with getting more 1×10’s I will probably need extra 1×3 batons too… Next week I hope to finish the siding and get the batons on the front…

OUR SOLAR POWER SYSTEM

So I am planning on having this cabin be totally off grid. I have a plan (link on the right) and have purchased a Xentrex 1500 watt inverter, a 12 slot Square-D main panel and two 220 AH deep cell batteries run in series. I have wired and tested this… so far so good and more to come

The Solar Power Plan page contains my current system and details about it. I also setup a Solar resources page with info I used in building this system.

It was also recommended that I read the Solar Electric Independent home Book by Fowler Solar Electric inc. The book was a couple of years old but still contained much useful information. That and the manuals for the charge controller and inverter were invaluable.
