Here’s a mini review & overview of my new Work Sharp WSKTS Knife and Tool Sharpener. I had planned to head down to the cabin to check on things and do a video on my new 21″ Sven Saw & SOG Fasthawk but car troubles kept me in the city.
I have been looking at the Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener for years and added it to my Amazon wish list. Santa must have been looking for ideas because he left me one under the tree this year.
When it comes to my every day carry (EDC) knives I keep them very sharp using a Smith’s Diamond Sharpening Kit and some old Arkansas stones I have had for years. When it comes to my kitchen knives I am less diligent and they show years of abuse.
About once a year I take my kitchen knives and sharpen them using the Smith’s Sharpening Kit but it takes a while. By then the knives have gone through the dishwasher hundreds of times and are pretty dull. I would spend 15 minutes or more per knife so doing the set would require several hours.
I have gone through my kitchen knives with the Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener once now and doing the whole set took only 30 minutes and the resulting edge is pretty good. I think I can get a better edge by hand but at the cost of alot more time.
In the end I like the Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener but give me a year of using it and I’ll let you know if I think its a good purchase.
Replacement belts are around $10 for 5 so thats not to bad depending on how long they last :
Work Sharp WSSA0002705 Fine 6000 Replacement Belt Kit (WSKTS & WSKTS-KT Only)
Work Sharp WSSA0002704 Medium 220 Replacement Belt Kit (WSKTS & WSKTS-KT Only)
Work Sharp WSSA0002703 Coarse 80 Replacement Belt Kit (WSKTS & WSKTS-KT Only)
Oh and Santa also put a Smith’s PP1 Pocket Pal Multifunction Sharpener in my stocking this year so he must have thought I needed to spend more time sharpening my knives 🙂
